Modifications & Improvements

Improvement 1 - Ports On Side

It was highlighted in the E-Mail from KEF that the ports on the side of the speaker are to big and muffle and ruin the sound. In order to improve the sound i willhave to move the ports or change the way they look. I desided to keep the sides the way they look as i think it looks good. However instead of the mesh on its own it will be attached to a thin piece of MDF with a small hole in the centre. This will improve the sound quality and supports what was said in the E-mail. Here i made a model of how i would change the ports on the side. There will be a mesh between the two pieces of wood.

Improvement 2 - Wire Ports

In the interview with Bob Cornell he said that the ports on the back are ugly and are in the way and could be come a issue with the user. To solve this i have Done some drawings where the ports have been moved to the side of the speaker and an improved way on the back. These two new designs get rid of the box that is on the back of the speaker and makes it more flush and better looking.

Improvement 3 - Driver size

This is a personal change that i want to make as i feel it will look better. i want the size of the 2 makin drivers to be bigger as i feel that it will improve the look of the speaker. This is a change that i have wanted to make and has annoyed me sinse the completion of the speaker. Below i have photoshoped a picture of the speaker and enlarged the size of the speaker drivers.

Improvement 4 - Battery

Bob said in the interview that this would be better if it had a battery as it could be taken plpces away from the home and could improve its sales potential. i agree with this compliment so have decided to try and incorporate it in the design. Below is a sketch where i have placed a black box to represent a battery and where it will be placed in the speaker.
