Logical:

when ever something is being designed it has to be logical for the situation that it is intended to be used for. As i will be designing a speaker the first thing that it needs to do is obviously play music through it as it is a speaker. If it didnt play music or any sound it would completley ruin the point of designing a speaker. The speaker will need to have high quality sound as it is designed by KEF. This is logical as KEF pride their products on the quality of sound so it is logical to have a speaker that has high quality sound as i am designing a product for KEF. As i specified in my initial specification I pointed out that i wanted to create a portable speaker as that is where ther is a gap in the market for KEF. The most logical point for this is that the speaker is light. The speaker needs to be light in weight as no one wants to have a portable speaker that is heavy as it is a inconvenience to transport and will make it harder to move. Although it has to be lightweight it will need to be strong as it is likely that when the speaker is being moved it will get knocked and bumped by various objects. As it will be made out of strong materials this will decrease the chance for the speaker to be aesthetically damaged and protect the speaker components. With the amount of Devices available on the market it is logical to make sure that the speaker has the relevent ports and adapters so the majority of devices can be used with the speaker, this will allow the customer not to be limited to the device that they can use with the speaker creating a wider market for KEF. As i will be designing in the style of KEF it is important that i stcik and follow their design styles. I will stick with the modern minamalistic design style and also follow their colour scheme. This is logical as i am designing a product for KEF.

Ilogical:

Using Materials that will affect the sound quality of the speaker is ilogical as i want to have high quality sound as this is what KEF is all about. Using materials that will affect the sound quality will lower the price of the speaker, potentially loose interest from customers but also damage the companys repretation for amazing sound quality. The complexity of the speaker is really important for the customer. It is ilogical to have a speaker that involves a lot of effort  and knowledge to work it as the customer will not have time to spend figuering out how to turn up the volume or change radio station. To avoide this problem i will have the really nesisary controls available to the customer i.e. volume, play/pause, next and on/off. Everyoone wants to have a huge speaker as they are loud but due to the high cost and size of them it just isnt feesable to have one. I will take this into account when designing my product and i am likely not to have a speaker that is really big. This is ilogical as it is very unlikely that someone will have enough room in their home to place the speaker. Another reason why this is ilogical is because the manufacturing process of making a large speaker will be very expensive but also time consuming to produce.

Need:

To have a sucessful working speaker there are many aspects and points that i will need to have. The first and most major component that i will need for my speaker is speakers. Without speakers my design will be pointless and non functional so will completely go against the brief. I will need enough speakers to allow the output of sound to be loud enough that the speaker is suitable in its environment. If the speaker isnt loud enough the customer will be disapointed and it is likely that the speaker will not get used. With all good speakers there is a good bass. Looking at the current genre of music and trends it is clear that bass plays a huge part in music today and that many people allways have the bass up full so they can "feel" the music. on that note i will deffinetly incorporate a subwoofer into my speaker. The most used feature on a speaker is the volume option, this needs to be easy to use but quick and accurate so the user can select the accurate volume that they desire. There are multiple options of styles to have a volume swith from rockers, buttons and dials. The most common being a button but the dial form is making a comback as seen on most/all surroundsound speaker systems and normal speakers. I will need a power supply for the display as without power the speaker will not work, along with the power supply there has to be a on/off button so the customer can easily turn off the power quick and easy instead of using the switch on the plug socket. If i decide to incorporate a radio with the speaker the one thing that i will deffinetly need to use is an ariel as without one the radio will not work  as it cant pick up any stations. I will deffinetly need to stick with the design theme and principles that KEF follow as i am designing for them, Although i will follow their design style i want to push the boundaries and do something slightly different from what they have done in past products.

Keep:

I have now looked at KEF as a brand and their principles of design but also there products and have desided to keep some aspects that they use on their designs. Firstly i have desided to keep the colour scheme that they go for i.e. three colours as this is always part of a good design not only with KEF but with all designers. Using the basic three colour rule will keep with in the minamalistic look but also be more pleasing to the eye than a product coloured in every colour in the rainbow. I have desided to keep with a dock as this is the most popular aspect of any speaker on the market today, This will allow the customer to play their own music. I have noticed with KEF products that they add the company name and logo, they do this descretely as they include it in the design unlike other brands where they just add some text. I want to do this as it will link the product to KEF. I deffinetly want to keep the sound quality that KEF have as this is their major selling pont and what KEF as a brand is about. I also want to keep the high quality materials that are Used on KEF's speakers as they increase value but also look amazing.

Scrap:

On most if not all speakers that i have looked at i have noticed that they all incorporate a mesh in their speaker to cover the look of the speaker. This mesh looks ugly but also hides the speakers look and style as it is shadowed by a black mesh. Getting rid of this will save manufacturing costs. One thing that i really hate on speakers is the really poor looking screen that is used to display the volume and other information. I want to scrap this as it is old fashioned now and will not match the style in wich KEF design in. This to will save manufacturing costs and therefore save the customer money.

Form v Function:

This is the section where the look of the display is affected by the products function and intention. When designing my speaker i want it to sound amazing and be loud, this could be affected by the size of speakers themselves. The more speakers there are the larger the speaker will have to be and this is a problem as i have specified that i would like to create eithr a sound bar or a portbale speaker and the amount of speakers i use will affect this decision. I want to create a really modern and high quality speaker that looks good however this can be affected by the choice of materials, different materials affect the sound quality and clarity so unforntunatly i will not be able to use all high quality materials. To find out what is affected i will do testing in my development. As i will be using high quality materials these can be heavy so this could affect the portability of the speaker.

X-Factor:

To have a product that will stand out to people and gain attraction from customers the speaker will need to have a feature or look different that will make it different from anything designed before. In terms of features i cant really add anything as all speakers have the same functions. To make it have a wow factor about it it will be the design and sound quality that will make it stand out. the design is the most obvious point that will make the speaker different so i will plan on incorporating organic and linear shapes together to make something totally different. The simplicity of how the user will use the speaker will also be a major difference as i want the user interface to be unique and different from industry standard buttons.
